Dev Anand’s film ‘Guide’ broke all records
Dev Anand had two brothers whose names were Chetan Anand and Vijay Anand. Of these, Chetan Anand was both a film director and producer while Vijay Anand only directed films. When his brother brought the script of Film Guide to Dev Anand, he liked it but those who invested in it did not find anything special in the script. According to media reports, Dev Anand convinced some financiers and the film was completed in 1965.
The premiere of Film Guide was held in Mumbai on 5 February 1965, in which all the filmmakers who came were disappointed with the film. He had said at that time that this film would not do wonders. But Dev Anand was confident that this film would be a hit. The film was released on 6 February and went to housefull. After a few days, its collection started falling and Dev Anand also felt that perhaps he should have listened to everyone.
According to media reports, Dev Anand was quite disappointed but suddenly the collection increased. According to the report of Bollywood Hungama, the budget of the film Guide (1965) was around Rs 50 lakh but its box office collection was Rs 1.75 crore and the film proved to be a superhit. Not only this, the songs of the film became very famous, the film also won 7 Filmfare Awards.
According to media reports, Film Guide also got an official entry in the Oscars. Dev Anand’s faith was appreciated by the makers and his popularity doubled which was seen during that period. There used to be a line of producers outside Dev Anand’s house just to get him to sign a film and it would not be wrong to call him a superstar of that era.
